Bjärlöv Granite: the complete guide

Overview

Bjärlöv is a Swedish granite in grey-brown tones, understated and compact. It suits those looking for a durable stone in a neutral, natural colour.

History and origin

Sweden has an ancient quarrying tradition, with granites valued in Scandinavia for construction, urban paving and memorials. Bjärlöv takes its name from a Swedish locality and is less widespread internationally. Availability must be checked for each enquiry. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Appearance

The background is grey with brown shadings, with a regular grain and a fairly uniform appearance. Variation between slabs is generally limited. Flamed and bush-hammered finishes lighten it, while the polished finish warms its tones.

Uses

It is suitable for urban paving, steps, kerbs, façades and outdoor furnishings. Indoors it is used for floors and worktops. Its uniform appearance makes it practical for large surfaces.

Care and maintenance

Clean with water and neutral detergents. Outdoors it can be treated with a water repellent to limit dirt. Soft brushes are useful for textured finishes.
