Independent Basebed is an open-textured oolitic limestone quarried in the United Kingdom, drawn from the Portlandian formation of the Jurassic period. Its palette of warm beige and cream tones, combined with a fine, even grain and a softly mottled appearance rather than pronounced veining, makes it a classic British building stone. Traditionally used for façades, ashlar masonry, flooring, steps and architectural details, it weathers gracefully and suits both traditional and contemporary projects. Recommended finishes include honed, sandblasted and bush-hammered surfaces, which enhance its natural grip and colour. Marmi di Carrara supplies Independent Basebed as blocks, slabs in 2 and 3 cm thicknesses and cut-to-size pieces, with photos of the actual slabs before purchase.
