Petrographic description

Rustenburg is a Granite quarried in South Africa, catalogued in the Marmi di Carrara atlas under the international reference ICZAGR00066. Its dominant tone is brown.

Like every granite, it is supplied as raw blocks, gangsaw slabs in 2 and 3 cm and cut-to-size pieces made in our Carrara plants. Recommended finishes: polished, honed, flamed, bush-hammered, leathered. Typical applications: kitchen worktops, exterior cladding and paving, stairs, monuments, high-traffic floors.

Availability varies with the quarry campaigns: before quoting we check current stock, block sizes and the selection grade, and we send photos of the actual slabs. Price and transport are confirmed by our technical office within one working day.

Nero Africa Granite: complete guide

Overview

Nero Africa is an imported dark granite, with a black background and a fine grey and light graining. It is chosen for hard-wearing dark surfaces that are less uniform and livelier than an absolute black.

History and origin

It is a material of African origin, very widespread on the international market, particularly for memorial work, floors and worktops. The exact origin may vary according to the supplier and the lot. It is appreciated for its balance of resistance, appearance and cost. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Appearance

The background is black or very dark grey, with grey crystals and small light specks creating a discreet salt-and-pepper effect. The slabs are fairly consistent, with slight differences in crystal density. Polished, it is a glossy black, while flamed or brushed it becomes dark grey.

Uses

It is suitable for kitchen worktops, bathroom vanity tops, floors, stairs, thresholds and exterior cladding. It is widely used for headstones and monuments. For outdoor floors a flamed or brushed finish is advisable.

Care and maintenance

Clean with water and a neutral detergent. On dark polished surfaces a microfibre cloth avoids smears. A stain-proofing protector can help on kitchen worktops.
