Travertino Rojo: complete guide
Overview
Travertino Rojo is a travertine in red and brown tones, less common than the beige varieties. It is chosen to bring warmth and personality to floors and cladding.
History and origin
Red travertines are imported materials available on the international market and come from only a few deposits. Their colouring is due to the presence of iron oxides in the limestone deposits during formation. The very rarity of the colour makes them suitable for projects looking for an alternative to classic light travertine. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Appearance
The background is brick red or brown, with orange, cream and sometimes golden streaks. Variability in tone between slabs is marked, so it is advisable to mix the pieces during laying. Honed, it shows more intense colours; brushed or tumbled, it looks softer and more rustic.
Uses
Suitable for floors, feature walls, bathrooms, stairs and covered or uncovered outdoor areas. Not recommended for kitchen worktops because of its sensitivity to acids.
Care and maintenance
Clean with neutral detergents and protect with a water repellent, which also helps keep the colour vivid. Avoid acidic products, which fade the surface.
