Gemlik Diabase is a dark green natural stone quarried in Turkey and marketed as a granite, though petrographically it is a true diabase of Triassic age. Its fine, even grain and deep green-black tone give facades, flooring and worktops a sober, mineral character, with subtle lighter specks from plagioclase and weathered ilmenite. Dense and durable, it suits high-traffic interior floors, exterior cladding, steps and kitchen counters. Polished, honed, brushed or flamed finishes all work well, the flamed surface enhancing its anti-slip quality for outdoor use. Marmi di Carrara supplies Gemlik Diabase as blocks, slabs in 2 and 3 cm, and cut-to-size pieces, with photos of the actual slabs before purchase.
Petrographic description
A dark green, Triassic-age formation occurring as a NE-SW striking dyke within metamorphic rocks. The sample is a typical diabase, consisting of intersertal-textured, partly albitised plagioclase (albite) microlites, augite, olivine and weathered ilmenite crystals, with secondary fractures filled by calcite and locally by quartz.
Gemlik Diabase is a Granite quarried in Turkey, catalogued in the Marmi di Carrara atlas under the international reference ICTRGR00026. Its dominant tone is green.
Like every granite, it is supplied as raw blocks, gangsaw slabs in 2 and 3 cm and cut-to-size pieces made in our Carrara plants. Recommended finishes: polished, honed, flamed, bush-hammered, leathered. Typical applications: kitchen worktops, exterior cladding and paving, stairs, monuments, high-traffic floors.
Availability varies with the quarry campaigns: before quoting we check current stock, block sizes and the selection grade, and we send photos of the actual slabs. Price and transport are confirmed by our technical office within one working day.
